New Jersey Marathon 2013


I approached the New Jersey Marathon in the fall of 2012, a few months after I ran their associated half marathon in May and just a short month after my local area was impacted by Hurricane Sandy. I was surprised to receive such a rapid response from the race director who was seeking to meet deadlines while also respectfully acknowledging Sandy’s effects on New Jersey families.

We met together and quickly began a journey to create the medal, shirt, and poster design for the event. I wanted to commemorate the spirit of the local people and the hope amongst the suffering. I chose the symbol of the lighthouse, modeled after the Sandy Hook light house, to capture this spirit, and I created the slogan “Up & Running” to demonstrate the resiliency of our locals while acknowledging the work ahead.
